Abstract. In modern society the personal security of citizens, maintenance of law and order is vested in the institution of the police. The most close to the problems of the population in rural areas is “service precinct”, it is obvious that, namely, of the people of this police service, in many respects, will depend on the level of trust and credibility of the internal affairs bodies among the population. In the article the results of sociological research conducted in 2014-2015 in 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, identify the factors affecting the level of population trust to the rural district police. The study revealed that the content of the citizens’ assessments of service activities of the rural precinct has the abstract nature of mediated information effects of mass communications and the conservatism of the stereotype of mass consciousness in the perception and evaluation of the police institution. It is shown that public confidence in the rural district police depends on the experience of direct interaction and personal contacts of the population with him: among rural residents, who know their district, their credibility is higher, and mistrust are lower than among those who does not know them. In addition, rural residents who trust their local police commissioner are more willing to cooperate with the police than those who do not trust.
Key words: rural district commissioner of the police, trust, cooperation of the population with the district commissioner of police.
