Abstract: In this article the author considers various approaches to the definition of social space in foreign and national sociology. The author also mentions the growth of interest to the spatial subject matter in sociological discourse but notes that authors frequently use this concept without revealing its essence. The author undertakes an attempt to sort out the most universal notion which could take into consideration various aspects of sociological analysis.
