Abstract. In the article rumors are studied in the context of understanding the cognitive unstructured and emotionally tense problem situation (without regard for its valence – positive or negative). The effectiveness of the psychological impact through rumors is determined by the proximity of the incoming information to the structure of meaning of person's psychological space. In this context, predisposition may be considered as the tendency to convergence of person's psychological space and the incoming information, without reference to the form of its representation. The predisposition as a complicated formation, depending on many factors, is primarily determined by individual and typological features of a person's character. In the course of the research, the recepients were involved into a real rumor situation, which allowed distinguish two groups – "supporters" and "skeptics" of rumors according to the character of reaction. Our further purpose was to identify the degree of manifestation of individual and typological peculiarities of the representatives of both groups. A high degree of predisposition to psychological impacts through rumors is typical for recipients with highly moderate intensity of extroversion, emotivity, sensitivity and anxiety; a low degree is typical for people whose values of introversion, rigidity and spontaneity are above the norm. The results of the research contribute to the understanding the nature of the people's predisposition to external psychological impacts, in particular through rumors.
