Abstract. Currently, there are many problems in Russian society related to the labor of students and its quality. The work quality is an important indicator of the level of economic and social development. It affects the formation of highly qualified personnel, which in turn affects the work quality. A high level of work quality should also be ensured during temporary work performed by students, and the nature of this work should not encourage employers to ignore this indicator, as students are the future labor force that will determine how successfully Russia can develop its economy and social programs and respond to external challenges. To determine the students’ work quality, a list of its characteristics was developed. This list was based, firstly, on an analysis of scientific literature on the topic of work quality and quality of working life, and, secondly, on the priority aspects of work that were identified by the respondents. A total of 100 students from two universities in Volgograd, Volgograd State University and Volgograd State Technical University, were surveyed. In addition to the rating scales, the questionnaire also included open-ended questions that allowed for a deeper understanding of the underlying meanings and interpretations of the ratings. The study examined the characteristics of work quality in terms of work results, internal work conditions, and external conditions for work. The results of the study revealed that the characteristics of work quality that were least highly rated were professional growth and development of students’ abilities, as well as safe and healthy working conditions. It is precisely these aspects of work that can be managed by employers, who can actually improve the characteristics of work quality.
Key words: work quality, characteristics of work quality, work results, internal work conditions, external conditions for work, assessments of respondents and their comments, problems of professional growth and development of students’ abilities.
