Abstract. The relevance of this topic is defined by specifics of professional self-determination, with personal and social contradictions to make a choice. The purpose of the work is to clarify methods for identifying different factors that influence the choice of the philosophical education. Rational and irrational motives of applicants are considered. Identifying ways to search for the value foundations of professional self-determination is a main task of this theme. At the same time, the choice of philosophical education, although it includes universal prerequisites that influence the choice of specialty, also allows some features. A judgment is presented according to which choice cannot be unconscious (extremely emotional) or determined exclusively by social coercion but presupposes something individually significant, determined by an amount of special knowledge and skills. In philosophical education, they are "terms of reading" that influence different aspects of life and thereby determine the interests of the applicant. In addition, the decision on a professional choice is the result of the evolution of approximate images of individual professional trajectories. Therefore, those who choose one direction or another often focus on people who are already doing something similar, comparing themselves with them. It is shown that the reasons for choosing a philosophical direction can be a variety of basis, both external and internal, including interests, abilities, personal and social needs. At the same time, the author believes that professional self-determination within the framework of a philosophical specialty does not finish with admission, but it can happen several times at different stages of life: student, graduate, specialist.
Key words: philosophical education, field of study "Philosophy", applicant, professional choice, value choice, personal and professional self-determination.
