Abstract. The article is a review and reflection on V.G. Lysenko's monograph, "Indian Philosophers on the Nature of Perception: Dignaga and His Opponents", published in 2022. The article considers the specifics of publishing translations of philosophical texts as well as the features of Lysenko's work. It is shown that her chosen path is the most original form of publishing philosophical classics. Despite the fact that the book is based on the translation of classical Buddhist treatises, the monograph presents a complex multidimensional reconstruction of the philosophical context of Indian discussions on the nature of cognition. It includes translations from Sanskrit of three treatises: The "Twenty Verses" by the founder of the Buddhist school, Yogachar Vasubandhu, and the works of his disciple, Dignaga, "The Study of the Subject of Cognition" and "A Set of Tools for Reliable Cognition". In the first part, an excursion into Indian epistemology and Buddhist-Brahmanist polemics on perception issues is conducted. The second part focuses on historical and philosophical reconstructions of the context surrounding the issues raised in these treatises. The importance of a translator acting as a philosopher, creating a complex historical and philosophical reconstruction, and conducting a specialized study, the aim of which is to elucidate the meaning of a translated text, is stressed. However, shortcomings have also been identified, which can be divided into formal and substantial ones. The former include the disorganized structure of the publication and the repetition of individual passages from the text. The latter are related to addressing an extremely important issue of correlation between modern neuroscience and Buddhist thought.
Key words: Buddhism, Brahmanism, neuroscience, epistemology, cognition, philosophy of consciousness, Vasubandhu, Dignaga.
