Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of peculiarities of social identity formation in contemporary Russian society. The authors show that the formation of Russian identity is stipulated a lot by a specific character of modernization processes of contemporary society. Identity crisis is closely connected with a tendency for globalization which leads in its turn to identity expansion.
