Abstract: The forms of philanthropic activities are determined and a private form of charity in Tsaritsyn (Saratov province) is described in the article. Besides, the attempts of interpretation of charity as a social phenomenon of provincial society are undertaken. The role of representatives of business world in the development of culture and public schooling in Tsaritsyn are also described in the work.
