Abstract: The article surveys the Russian phenomenon of declining population in close connection with the implemented market reforms. The demographic crisis in Russia which began in 1992 is stipulated by an unrighteous reallocation of property, deindustrialization, impoverishment of the population, and social degradation. The author's conclusions are confirmed by the statistic material.
