Abstract. The article formulates the definitions and characteristics indicated by a modern “multicultural society”, “multiculturalism”. There are different points of view on the relationship the concepts of “global culture”, “identity”, “tolerance”. The authors consider the sociophilosophical meaning of the concept of multiculturalism, its methodological possibilities and prospects for practical application.
