Abstract. The article is devoted to the theoretical analysis of the age aspects of the social comparison. The key features of the process of social comparison, its characteristics and functions are revealed. The category of age taken as a criterion for the comparison makes the normative and self estimating functions transparent. Theoretical conclusions prove to be true results in connection with existing foreign researches.
