Abstract. The article attempts to apply the results of philosophy and sociology of science to the analysis of the nature and prospects of historical thinking. It is stated that communication can be presented not only as a way of organizing the scientific community, but also as a principle of organization of the scientific text. A variant of the communicative structure of the scientific text is offered. It is argued that such a structure can be presented as a condition of the efficiency of the cognition process, and thus become part of scientific ethos. It is shown that significant problems of historical thinking are due to the discrepancy between the historical text structure and this communicative structure.

Key words: sociology of science, philosophy of science, scientific ethos, historical cognition, historical narrative, communication, interaction.
