Abstract: V.I. Vernadsky defends the autonomous character of universities in journalistic articles written at the beginning of the XXth century. He argues that new higher forms of human community arise on the basis of mastering and creating scientific values. The author considers the form of university as a prototype of future democratic organization of living.
