Abstract. The article analyses the later works of L.N. Tolstoy. The author reveals the "strategy of way" peculiar for that period, as a model of hero's spiritual development. The study demonstrates that the philosophical and fiction works by L.N. Tolstoy are characterized by preaching, moral and didactic sense. Being the philosopher who realizes his ideas in fiction, L.N. Tolstoy determines the conditions of person's spiritual ascension through way of pilgrimage.
